Darling Sophanista, welcome to Wanderlust Spain.
I have to admit: this piece might be my favorite of the entire collection. It represents the purest idea behind the Wanderlust Collection: the mosaic is made of a coin from 1754 Spain, during the reign of Ferdinand the 6th. The mosaic itself is set in a watch case I found in an antique store some 3 years ago in Bordeaux, France. That case is from the 1840's. SO, this mosaic is multi national, and spans over time- it brings together two cultures that at the time they were created (the coin and the watch) these countries were mortal enemies. And NOW they work side by side in a new world.
My first piece EVER was made in 1988, during the Cold War. I took Russian amber and US Southwestern turquoise and put them together on one string and I called it my PEACE necklace... I wish I still had it today. But I gave it away.
From the clicks on the cobblestones, the aromas of paella, to the swirls of Moorish castles and the OLÈ of Flamenco dancers… YOU were on this Spanish adventure with me, darling Sophanista. This collection gathers elements of Malaga and Seville, from jaw dropping antique stores, quiet street vendors, and pieces that remind us of that magnificent adventure.
